How to Help Conserve
- Lower your thermostat a few degrees if you’re home and more if you’re away.
- Run your ceiling fans clockwise to push heat down and circulate the warm air.
- Leave your window blinds or curtains open during the day to let the sun warm your home naturally. Close them at night to keep the cold out.
- Use appliances like washing machines, dryers and ovens sparingly during mornings and early evenings when demand peaks.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance do you know when an event like this could happen?
Surges in demand can be unpredictable. We’ll always do our best to give you advance notice so you can conserve, though in some cases that may be the same day or next day.
What happens if power reserves get too low?
ERCOT, the state’s grid operator, could implement brief, controlled outages across the state. In extreme conditions, Texans could experience unplanned outages. Periods of especially high demand can also lead to higher wholesale power prices. But Ambit customers can rest assured knowing their term plan is protected.
What if I get notified when I'm not at home to adjust my thermostat?
You can help next time, and if you can, proactively raise your thermostat while you’re away from home during cold weather.
Are bill-payment resources available after periods of high usage?
Yes. Please call us if you need a little flexibility or would like to set up a longer-term payment plan, Ambit's Customer Care team is here for you from 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. CT, seven days a week at (877) 282-6248.
